Second Half Prospects for 2008 and 2009

Midseason Cleanup Underway for Second Half Prospects

It's the All-Star Break, which means it's time for our semi-annual cleanup. As a result of the Great Cull, more than sixty Prospects formerly in our rankings will graduate to MLB status and thus disappear from our list, leaving us with a nice clean slate of prospects for the second half.

See where it says UPDATED up there? We mean it. Soto and sixty other top prospects are moving on up and out of the list this week to make way for the new crop.

Now that their MLB service time has ensured that everyone knows names like Geovany Soto, Evan Longoria and Jay Bruce, it's time to shuffle them off to Prospect Pasture and bring in the next crop.

Luckily, thanks to a half-season of minor league play and yet another Draft, there's a flood of new blood to track here at Scouting Book.

Over the next few days, we will be 'graduating' all the players who no longer qualify as prospects, and re-ranking those who remain, which means that our Top Prospect List will reflect and rank only prospects who still could qualify as Rookies for 2009.

Of course, some will see action in the second half, and those will be culled in the offseason. But for now, this cleanup should help you focus on the young names to watch in the second half. And if you're a fantasy player, these are the kids to target for 2009.

We expect to have the culling completed before play resumes on Thursday.
