Dunn Just Right for Prospects

Adam Dunn Traded for Dallas Buck, Others

After clearing waivers, Adam Dunn has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitching prospect Dallas Buck and two players to be named later.

Ex-Beaver and Erstwhile Oak Dallas Buck will join Cincinnati's growing stable of exciting young arms.

Dunn, leading MLB in home runs and RBIs, is an immediate boost to the Diamondbacks for the stretch run, but more interesting to us here at ScoutingBook are the prospects that are on their way to Cincinnati in return.

The main prize is Dallas Buck, a one-time premium arm whose development was derailed by Tommy John surgery last year. Before succumbing to injury, Buck was a top-level righthander who led Oregon State to the College World Series. Since Dunn was on his way to free agency anyway, adding a premium prospect arm for the future looks like a smart move for the Reds.

Of course, whether they got enough for Dunn -- the Reds could have received 2 compensatory draft picks by letting him walk at year-end -- will depend on who the other two players to be named later turn out to be.

We'll update our info as soon as the word is final, but our preliminary report here has to be positive. With next year's pitching crop looking thinner than the last few drafts, landing an investment like Buck looks like smart money for Cincinnati.
