Yes, We Have Fantasy Baseball Rankings! Stop Asking!
As Requested, Our Position by Pos--- oh my, what is that?
Is fantasy baseball a distraction from the real thing? Maybe, but who couldn't use a little fantasy distraction now and then? We don't do much fantasy-specific info here at Scouting Book. Instead, we usually ask ourselves whether information would be useful and/or interesting to both fantasy players and regular fans. If the answer is yes, we do it. But we get so many, many, many requests for draft help that we finally caved in a little, and decided to have some fun of our own by doing a little fantasy ranking for your enjoyment.
Yes, dear readers, we will indeed give you our fantasy draft rankings by position. We'll start with catchers and first basemen, and we'll start today. How's that for service?
Unlike our prospect and closer data, which is calculated and scored to death by automatic processes deep inside our secret mountain hideout, these rankings come from the messy lists, sloppy thinking, and hunch-filled guts of those of us who play fantasy baseball ourselves.
(The only formula we used was to count our picks up, then average them to make an easy list for you. Then we added a few words to summarize our consensus opinion or thoughts on the player for 2012, or at least to record the funniest comment made while we argued about it. You know, for posterity. So please forgive any oversights, mistakes, or rude comments.)

Where a player we recommend also happens to be a rookie tracked here at Scouting Book, you'll find a handy little green rookie indicator (what other color would a rookie be?) that will take you to their full profile. As for the veterans, well... you're on your own. If you don't know why Prince Fielder might be a good choice, or why Brad Lidge is a risky one, then we wish you the very best of luck in your cute little fantasy league, big fella.
For the most part, our recommendations are aimed at year-to-year players, with a few special notes now and then for keeper-league or franchise owners. So there's little fear of older players here, other than that they might break a hip, and there's almost no value given to prospects who are more than a year away.
(Considering what the rest of our site is about, it does feel strange for us to think that way, yes. But maybe it's strange in a healthy, mind-opening way. Or maybe not.)
We'll upload our rankings for each other position over the next few days, and we will even try to revise them at least once or twice before opening day, but no promises on that one.
And remember, when it comes to fantasy drafting time, follow your instincts, take some chances, and have fun. It's only a game, people.
Heck, it's only a game about a game!
