Bigger. And Also Smaller.
New ScoutingBook 2.0 Website Should Fit Everyone
Did you ever start a home-renovation project that just got completely out of hand? At first, you think you're just repainting an old bathroom. And while you're at it, maybe fix that leaky shower head. And the crooked mirror. And... well, before you know it, you're digging under the foundation and running new sewer lines.
That's what's been happening here at Scouting Book this month. We promised our readers a lot of neat new features and tools for 2012 and beyond, and we've already started turning them on. But it turned out our creaky old website just couldn't handle some of the fancier things we're dying to show you. So we had to upgrade a whole lot of our foundation (and that plumbing) before we could work on the pretty parts.
Now that we've finished most of that work, we have a little surprise for everyone. Today's new Scouting Book 2.0 website is bigger, brighter, easier to read and use, and should work better with all sorts of modern devices, not just old-fashioned computers.
We noticed that a shockingly huge portion (almost forty percent!) of our audience is accessing ScoutingBook.com from iPads and iPhones, and we just can't leave you guys with second-rate treatment on your shiny little screens, can we? So as you're probably noticing right about now, navigating, reading and using Scouting Book from your iPad or phone just got a whole lot easier to do.
We'll continue tweaking the Scouting Book experience over the coming weeks for all users, even you annoying Microsoft Internet Explorer people (hey, guys, it's called Firefox. Look into it!) Even Old Man McGoo and his Netscape Navigator thingie should be able to manage all right, once we finish tidying. But for the next couple of weeks, please forgive a few glitches and uglies. There are quite a few rough edges that we need to hammer flat.
Beyond the new look, the biggest improvements are under the hood. Like our recent stats overhaul that highlights interesting numbers for your quick appraisal, we've got a number of other 'smart' tools coming soon, and we needed a more robust and modern foundation to build them on. We'll be tweaking performance over the coming weeks as well, making the site faster and more resilent for those weeknights when half the planet seems to be drafting their fantasy league at the same time. Some of these tweaks will, of course, introduce new bugs that we'll need to squish, and so on... so, again: please have patience, faithful readers. We'll get there.
In the mean time, here's a big welcome, from all of us, to your new home at ScoutingBook.com.
Hope you like it.
