Fantasy Baseball Cheat Sheet 2012: C Rankings

Most of what we do here at Scouting Book is about prospects and rookies, but we do get many requests for our opinions on veteran players, too. Especially from fantasy owners looking for extra tidbits of advice to help them with their upcoming draft.

If you're one of those types, you're probably thirsting for every drop of info or guidance you can find. So here, have a drink on us.

Player Tm Smart and/or Smartass Comments
Mike Napoli  TEX Always great in fantasy, a full year in Texas on a 1yr deal means he's a full-size monster.
Carlos Santana  CLE In a keeper league, Santana should probably be the number one choice.
Joe Mauer  MIN He's still Joe F. Mauer. Just remember to only expect 100 games or so.
Buster Posey  SF Fully, completely, totally healed, right? Improving but still so-so offense around him.
Brian McCann  ATL Assuming his eyes are working right, he'll enjoy hitting in an improved lineup.
Miguel Montero  ARZ An underappreciated does-everything-well catcher on a team to match.
Yadier Molina  STL A slightly-dented STL lineup will hurt a little.
Matt Wieters  BAL Took steps last year to claw back some hype. Will take some more in '12.
Alex Avila  DET It's a monster lineup, which can only help Alex.
Geovany Soto  CHC The Cubs will be fun to watch this year. Geo, too.
Jesus Montero * SEA (R)  Even if he's not a catcher, he will hit. Mariners need to play him.
Kurt Suzuki  OAK Might be his last year in Oakland. Will he audition for a raise?
Ryan Doumit  MIN Now a Twin, should get plenty of ABs.
Nick Hundley  SD The backwards man. Hits best at home in SD, under the sun. Finished '11 strong.
Russell Martin  NYY That Yankee lineup raises all boats.
Jonathan Lucroy  MLW Easy to forget about, but he'll contribute.
Carlos Ruiz  PHI The team and the park boosts any catcher's value in Philly.
Miguel Olivo  SEA Not much of a lineup around him.
Wilson Ramos  WAS Less competition means more ABs.
JP Arencibia  TOR Sophomore jinx beware.
Hank Conger  LAA Great hitter in minors, could take big strides this year.
Devin Mesoraco  CIN (R)  Looks very ready, capable of big numbers.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia  BOS Probably won't ever live up to early hype, but he's been quietly improving.
Josh Thole  NYM A frustrating Mets season lies ahead, but Thole could keep making strides.
Wilin Rosario  COL (R)  Didn't look ready last year. Has talent and Colorado is not afraid to use him.
Derek Norris  OAK (R)  Could see some action, though the A's would be wiser to save him for later.
Ramon Hernandez  COL A part-timer and mentor now, can still hit. Colorado's a nice place to retire.
Chris Iannetta  LAA Will steal at-bats from the otherwise-deserving Conger. Or vice versa.
Ryan Lavarnway  BOS (R)  He's the franchise catcher breathing down Salty's back. Soon.
Ryan Hanigan  CIN Has to play well to hold Mesoraco back.
John Jaso  SEA Now in Seattle. A better catcher than Montero.
Victor Martinez  DET Injury might not be as bad as expected; he could play in late 2012.
AJ Pierzynski  CWS He's got a good year or two left.

Asterisks denote players who might or might not qualify at C for you, depending on your league's own rules and the whims of real life.
