The Book on Jose Tabata
Prospect Info
Jose Tabata
Born 8/12/1988
OF, PIT
Tabata is a polished fielder who's almost major-league ready, despite his young age. A natural right fielder with excellent patience, Tabata has vanished from the national radar since leaving the bright lights of New York for Pittsburgh, but he's just as solid a prospect now as he was in the Bronx. He could probably benefit from another minor-league season to sharpen his ancillary tools and focus, but other than that, there's not much holding him back. There aren't many good reasons to keep him off tomorrow's MLB roster in Pittsburgh.
Player Updates and Notes
During a radio interview, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington mentioned that there are 'a lot of rumblings' that the team's Venezuelan outfielder Jose Tabata might actually be in his mid-20s, rather than approaching his 22nd birthday, as official records indicate.

Jose Tabata has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates as the headliner in a four prospect package for veterans Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte. Tabata will fall down a notch or two, as Pittsburgh has much more outfield depth, but he should benefit long-term. The future Pirate outfield of McCutchen, McLouth, Tabata could be one of the league's best.
