Jason Windsor
Born 7/16/1982
RHP, OAK
A College World Series award-winnner for Most Outstanding Player, Windsor is a either one of the next wave of Oakland aces, or a bargaining chip that will be used to help the team rebuild. It all depends who you talk to.
Windsor is a big, strong righthander with a serviceable fastball and a knee-buckling curve that's clearly his best pitch. He also works in a slider and change with mixed results. According to his college catcher Kurt Suzuki (it really is a small world), Windsor is very similar to A's colleague Joe Blanton, though based on his minor league numbers, Windsor's strikeout skills seem a notch better.
Even with the refreshed depth in the Oakland bullpen, expect Windsor to see action sometime in 2009, though he could soon be passed by some of the younger arms in the stable.
Player Updates and Notes
After allowing four runs in five innings in his last spring start, Jason Windsor was assigned to the A's minor league team to start the regular season. This removes him from the competition for the fifth rotation spot in Oakland. It's possible that Windsor will be given a shot later in the year, but he'll have to impress in the minors to remain next on the depth chart.
