The Book on Gorkys Hernandez
Prospect Info
Gorkys Hernandez
Born 9/7/1987
OF, PIT
After a brief stint in the Atlanta system, onetime Tiger prospect Gorkys Hernandez was shipped to the Pirates for Nate McLouth in 2009 before ever getting a real shot with the Braves. Still, he's is a quality prospect who hit .264/.348/.387 with 20 steals for Double-A Myrtle Beach in 2008. He's fast and talented, with exceptional defensive range, but his meaningful arrival still looks to be another year or two away.
Player Updates and Notes
Gorkys Hernandez has been shipped off to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a package for outfielder Nate McLouth. His opportunities in Pittsburgh are just as blocked as they were in Atlanta, but the defensive-minded centerfielder still has an MLB future... sooner or later.
