Still, Hernandez is a quality prospect who hit .293/.344/.371 with 54 steals for Single-A Michigan last season. He's fast and talented, with exceptional defensive range, but his arrival looks to be a few years away.

Hernandez, who was expected as recently as a month ago to make the Braves opening day roster, will now compete for fourth or fifth OF spot in Spring Training.

Gorkys Hernandez was traded to the Atlanta Braves today, along with pitching prospect Jair Jurrjens. The Tigers gain veteran shortstop Edgar Renteria in return.
