The Book on Danny Richar
Prospect Info
Danny Richar
Born 6/9/1983
2B, CHW
Once the 'shortstop of the future' in the Diamondbacks system, Richar went to Chicago in 2007 (for Aaron Cunningham), presumably because Arizona realized they already had Stephen Drew and Justin Upton under contract.
A strong hitter with superior bat-speed, the powerful young Dominican can also play the outfield. Richar looks best suited to second base now, though, and that happens to be a position where the White Sox are lacking depth.
Player Updates and Notes
Danny Richar and Nick Masset are on the way to Cincinnati in exchange for Ken Griffey Jr. Other than giving Junior a chance to be on a winning team, it's not clear what the point of this is. Richar's a reasonable prospect who's been disposable ever since the emergence of Alexei Ramirez, and Masset is a reliever with some possible upside, but the declining Griffey doesn't exactly bring anything to the Sox that they didn't already have.

Whoops. A day after the Sox started shopping Juan Uribe, Danny Richar's been sidelined for four to six weeks with a broken rib. For four sweet hours, Richar enjoyed the shortest-lived rankings boost in the history of ScoutingBook.com. Things are looking great for Alexei Ramirez now, and for any team with an extra 2B to shop around...
