The Book on Lou Marson

Prospect Info

CLELou Marson
Born 6/26/1986
C, CLE

A defensively strong catcher who's made a fast rise through the system, Lou Marson went from being one of a half-dozen decent system backstops to the likely catcher of the future in Philadelphia, mainly on the back of his hard-nosed and 'Phillies-style' attitude. He was traded to the Indians at the 2009 deadline in the package that netted Cliff Lee for the Phillies.

He won't be a Mauer/Soto/Wieters type plus bat, but as long as his hitting continues to develop as much as it has in the last two years, he'll be a solid everyday catcher. He's at least a year ahead of the other Indians catching prospect, young Carlos Santana, so he'll have to play his way OUT of a job in 2010.

Player Updates and Notes

With the trade of Kelly Shoppach and injury to young Carlos Santana, catcher Lou Marson is looking more and more like the Indians opening day starter. The team may still add a veteran influence, of course.
