SDClayton Richard
Born 9/12/1983
LHP, SD

A big lefty with a strong shot at sticking in the Padre rotation after his acquisition in the Jake Peavy trade, Richard made eight starts at the end of 2008 with mixed results. His 2-5 record doesn't look like much, but he did strike out 29 batters in 47 innings while showing flashes of plus stuff. Unfortunately, he also gave up way too many base hits, including five home runs, and ended his cup of coffee with a 6.04 ERA. He'll need to cut down on his walks and keep the ball down, but if he can maintain his confidence, he could blossom into a bona fide middle-rotation starter by 2010.
