The Book on Max Ramirez

Prospect Info

TEXMax Ramirez
Born 10/11/1984
C, TEX

Max is a professional hitter with a career .314/.414/.521 line in the minors. He's athletic enough to play first, third or even the outfield, but his size and skill set is still best-suited to receiving, where he has a good arm and has proven to be a reliable game-caller. He should get at least a few looks in 2010, but his real future is in 2011 and beyond.

Player Updates and Notes

The trade of Max Ramirez to the Red Sox has been canceled following an examination of Mike Lowell's thumb. The trade may be reworked in the wake of the medical evaluation, but it's also possible the Rangers may look elsewhere for a corner bat.

The Red Sox are said to be pursuing young catcher Max Ramirez to provide a long-term option or occasional relief for Victor Martinez. Texas enjoys a surplus of catching talent but could use one of the aging big bats in the Sox clubhouse, so this is a fit that could work.

The trade of Gerald Laird to the Indians opens up a bench spot for Max Ramirez, who could now make the Rangers right out of spring training.
