News and Notes

Only a few hours after Matt Harvey dominated Atlanta with 13 strikeouts, Zack Wheeler struck out seven more Braves in six scoreless innings to win his MLB debut in the second half of today's doubleheader. Though he threw barely half his pitches for strikes and walked five, he should be commended for the cool he showed as he worked out of trouble again and again. With Harvey and Wheeler at the front of next year's rotation, Mets fans should have something to feel hopeful about.

Confirming last week's update, top Mets prospect Zack Wheeler will indeed be called up to the majors, and will start the second game of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the Braves. With little to cheer about so far this year, Mets fans would very much like to see some hope for the future, here.

Top prospect Zack Wheeler will make at least one more AAA start before being called up to the Mets, which puts his likely MLB debut at June 18, when the Mets play a doubleheader against the Braves. Wheeler is 4-1 with a so-so 4.14 ERA in 12 minor-league starts this year, striking out 66 in 63 innings.
