The Book on Kyle Gibson

Prospect Info

MINKyle Gibson
Born 10/23/1987
RHP, MIN

With stuff enough to be the ace of any college staff, Kyle Gibson was hidden behind Aaron Crow in Missouri. While he's still not a Crow-type talent, the big righthander is a workhorse with a high-command fastball and the determination to grind through opposing batters inning after inning. His fastball can reach 94-95mph, but he works mainly in the 91-92 range, relying on his plus slider and above-average change to beguile batters.

Player Updates and Notes

Kyle Gibson has been promoted from A-level Fort Myers to AA New Britain after thoroughly embarrassing FSL hiters with a 1.36 ERA in 33 innings. When other teams passed on Gibson in the 2009 due to a bone fracture, they may have handed the Twins the biggest steal of the entire draft.

Kyle Gibson threw a complete game one-hit shutout for Single-A Fort Myers yesterday, and despite Minnesota's legendary slow hand with prospects, he seems bound for Double-A shortly. He's been eating the FSL for lunch, with a 1.76 ERA and a 4:1 K:BB ratio, but even more ridiculous is is ground ball to fly ball ratio, which sits at an even TEN-to-one as of Thursday's game. Already the Twins top pitching prospect, he's on the verge of gaining much wider attention.
