Jake Fox
Born 7/20/1982
1B, CHC
He's not a catcher anymore, but he's still one of the most fearsome bats in the minor leagues. With a monster all-or-nothing approach, Fox has proven he can turn on even the fastest fastball, but hasn't shown much interest in any other part of the game of baseball. (Baseball America calls super-slugger Fox 'dangerous with a bat and a glove', and that's not exactly a ringing endorsement of his defense.) But chicks dig the long ball, so Fox could get a shot in Wrigley whenever Milton Bradley first hits the DL. While it's too bad the NL doesn't have a DH position to offer him, he's got enough slugging chops that the Cubs will put up with some shaky defense for the runs he'll produce: this is the club that plays Alfonso Soriano every day, after all. A trade to an AL club could turn ramp up his value even higher.
Player Updates and Notes
Jake Fox has been optioned back to the minors. The AAA slugger didn't launch many balls in Chicago, but he could be back for a second opportunity if injuries strike again.

And... thank you Chicago. The Cubs finally summoned Jake Fox, who was leading all AAA hitters in almost every hitting category this year. He arrived just in time to take one turn at bat against the Pirates today. The result? An RBI double. Fox should be the hottest hitter not named Wieters on every fantasy league wire this week.

Jake Fox is absolutely destroying the minor leagues this year, with a .428 average, 16 homers and an impossible 1.389 OPS through 40 games. It's ridiculous that Chicago hasn't called him up yet: he's been the best hitter in AAA for two months now.
