The Yankees top international signee back in 2007, righthander Arodys Vizcaino got a taste of MLB ball in 2011 and was looking like he would be back to stay in 2012, at least until x-rays found irreparable damage in his elbow, necessitating TJ surgery to replace his shredded ligaments. Pre-surgery, his fastball hovered in the low 90s, but could get even harder once he is fully recovered. He is known to complement his heat with an already-superb curve and a developing change, which he'll hopefully remember how to throw come 2014.
He's special enough to not write off, and may end up looking like a steal for the Cubs one day.

Arodys Vizcaino will do his recuperation and recovery in a new uniform, as the Tommy John victim (beneficiary?) has been traded to the rebuilding Cubs for veterans Paul Maholm and Reed Johnson.

Oh, well, he'll be great in 2014. After further scans confirmed the damage to his elbow, Arodys Vizcaino was slated for Tommy John surgery tomorrow and will now miss all of 2012, as well as some early 2013 action. With the increasingly high success rate of TJ surgery, Vizcaino remains a high-upside prospect, just not for right now.

Arodys Vizcaino is expected to open 2012 back in the Braves' relief corps. He's still better as a starter long-term, but the Braves are nothing if not patient and careful with their treasures. If he's there on Opening Day, the Atlanta bullpen will be one of the best in baseball, and also one of the youngest.
