News and Notes

Apparently feeling challenged by our last note, Wil Myers is now doing pretty much exactly what Yasiel Puig has done in the National League. Myers is .310/.336/.460 after 113 at-bats, with four homers and three steals on the season so far. That's an ROY pace.

It wasn't exactly a Puig-like debut, but Wil Myers is 2-for-12 with a double and two RBIs after his first three big-league games. While he's not quite on fire, he is looking comfortable, and should remain with the MLB club for the rest of the season. Don't forget about him.

Wil Myers has been called up to Tampa Bay tonight, and should be in the lineup for at least one of the two games the Rays play against the Red Sox on Tuesday, according to SI.com. After a slow start in AAA, Myers has raked a .347 average (and 1.126 OPS) with 10 homers over his last three weeks in Durham.

Wil Myers homered twice last night for AAA Durham, his ninth homer of the last three weeks (in which he's slashing .358/.393/.790). There's no obvious place in the lineup for Myers in Tampa, but they won't be holding him back much longer, regardless. While an injury or trade would make it easier, the team is very likely to promote him in the next week or two, regardless of situational needs.

They really did it. The Kansas City Royals are officially all-in for 2013 after dealing Wil Myers and three other young talents to the Tampa Bay Rays for James Shields, Wade Davis, and a player to be named later.

It's not often you hear about top prospects being on the market (their trades are usually a surprise or throw-in to balance a bigger trade) but Kansas City is showing little shyness shopping outfielder Wil Myers, according to Yahoo Sports. Myers, one of baseball's top three everyday prospects by our reckoning, could provide franchise anchor for any number of offensively-challenged teams who have front-line pitching to spare. Do you hear us, San Francisco and/or Tampa Bay?

Playing in front of a KC crowd hungry for his arrival, top prospect Wil Myers drove in three runs in Sunday's MLB Futures Game. Myers is idling at AAA Omaha for no good reason, hitting .315 with 14 homers in 48 games. Could someone please tell the Royals that it's July now?
