News and Notes

3/4/2012 by KDaddy

In the first hint of a career of many NL West duels to come, Drew Pomeranz of the Rockies posted two scoreless innings in his spring debut vs rival prospect Trevor Bauer of the Diamondbacks. (Bauer recorded six consecutive outs in his own two innings.) The two pitchers are among the most-acclaimed rookies this season, and both hope to break camp in big league rotations for their respective ballclubs.

We'd like to thank Billy Beane for being such a loyal Scouting Book reader. In response to our post two hours ago, Mr. Beane has kindly solved the Rockies' rotation issues by trading lefthander Josh Outman to Colorado. Outman should bump Pomeranz to #4 or #5 in the Rockies rotation, the way it looks right now. But if the Rockies add one more pitcher, Pomeranz will almost certainly open in AA.

Drew Pomeranz is looking more and more like a member of the Rockies' 2012 starting rotation, as the team hasn't made any serious moves to add pitching during the offseason so far.
