News and Notes

7/24/2013 by KDaddy

Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in his MLB debut last night. His only failure, in fact, was a deep fly ball to center field on one of his best swings. He'll get the majority of playing time for the rest of the year, depending on how much the Marlins choose to showcase Justin Ruggiano for a possible trade.

Christian Yelich will be called up in time for tonight's game in Colorado, according to ESPN. While there's no obvious place for Yelich to fit into the everyday lineup, that's only true if we assume the everyday lineup will continue to feature Justin Ruggiano and Juan Pierre, which isn't likely. Yelich, who is probably the long-term answer in left field, was hitting .277 with seven home runs at AA Jacksonville.

It's hard to see where the Marlins could play him without a big trade opening space, but outfielder Christian Yelich is doing everything possible to earn a permanent callup. He's slashing .324/.383/.649 at AA Jacksonville, and is (by far) the most interesting prospect the team has left on the farm.
