Once the proud owner of the best slider in the Miami system, smallish lefty Rob Rasmussen was selected by Florida in the second round of the 2010 First Year player draft. As a four-year starter at Pasadena Polytechnic before his UCLA days, Rasmussen struck out two batters per inning (seriously).

Rasmussen spent 2012 in Houston's AA system, then was sent to Los Angeles for John Ely in the offseason. His future is brighter in LA, but also further off. The Dodgers will likely let him put in another year at AA while they see what they have and adjust it to their liking.

Rob Rasmussen has been traded to the Astros as part of the deal for slugger Carlos Lee. Rasmussen, usually seen as a reliever, has been adequate as an A-ball starter, so it's hard to say how Houston will deploy his nasty slider.
