A college pitcher who rose to attention in 2015, righthander Santos Saldivar broke Jose DeLeon's Southern University single-season strikeout record with 115. A slightly-built strike-thrower with a reputation for guts and toughness, Saldivar went undrafted in 2015, probably due to his size, but he remains on the fringes of professional baseball. With a solid mix of four pitches headlined by a low-90's fastball, he's likely to show up sooner or later, especially if his work ethic is as good as scouts say.

News and Notes

Apparently we're not the only ones who loved Lindbergh and Miller's book. The Brewers clearly read it, and have responded by signing free agent pitcher Santos Saldivar, a college ace who went undrafted due to size and durability concerns. Saldivar last pitched in the independent Pacific Association for the Sonoma Stompers, where he racked up a 2.05 ERA in five starts and eight relief appearances, striking out 58 hitters in 48 innings.
